A Seed Is Planted…How The Center For Synergistic Healing Came To Be

Despite the rising popularity of integrative and functional medicine, there aren’t that many places patients can find a variety of qualified medical doctors and integrative health practitioners in one location, to treat their entire family.

This vision of a healing center that housed like-minded multi-disciplinary practitioners working in synergy, came from an influential figure in my life.

I was truly fortunate to have trained and worked with the late, renowned osteopathic physician, Dr. Viola Frymann, for the last decade.

Not only was she an exceptionally skilled osteopath, but her avid support of an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care, opened my eyes to how effective a collaborative effort between specialties can be.

Her interactions and the patients’ responses to vision therapies, neurodevelopmental therapies, holistic dentistry, and many other modalities showed the crucial role each speciality plays in healing and maintaining health in the whole functional person.

Despite my commitment to and belief in osteopathy, I truly believe it would be a disservice to suggest that one doctor or practitioner can be an “expert” on all parts of the body for all types of patients.

How a collaborative team approach benefits practitioner and patient

Working in a team teaches us, as practitioners, to appreciate our strengths and acknowledge when to lean on others’ strengths for the benefit of the patient.

As I mentioned above, no one person can be an expert at everything, thus any egos must be set aside and the patient’s needs put first (imagine that!). (this parenthesis is actually part of the text the way it is)

For our patients, I am continually amazed by how much faster they improve and how much they appreciate the interdisciplinary care of different specialties, which include:

  • Cranial Osteopathy & Traditional Osteopathy

  • Functional Medicine Health Support

  • Hormone Support (women, men, thyroid)

  • IV Therapies (nutrition, vitamins, hydration)

  • Ozone Therapy

  • Prolotherapy (stem, PRP)

  • Self Health Therapy (health machines accessible for use)

  • Skin Health and Aesthetics

  • Speech and Myofunctional Therapy

As a doctor, this collaborative approach helps me help my patients improve their health and quality of life faster.

United for your optimal health

With the seedling that continues to grow, the vision evolves to meet the current need of our society.

Not only is there a thirst from the community for a collaborative, synergistic team approach to healthcare, but there is a hunger for reliable resources and education which empower patients to make the best choices for their health.

Afterall, your body has an innate capacity to heal itself; we, as practitioners, are only there to guide and assist you in this powerful and individual process.

At the Center for Synergistic Healing in San Diego, we are UNITED FOR YOUR OPTIMAL HEALTH.

Wishing you well-being,

– Dr. Julie Mai, DO
